Within a cocreated embodied field two living bodies communicate with each other as rhythms and melodies of moving and being moved. Julianne has developed a new way of understanding of and working within this body-to-body-communication in a relational and field-oriented way. Own bodily attunement to the relational body messages of the client, along-side an awareness of one’s personal physical resonances and impulses opens possibilities for new explicit interaction within this mode of body-to-body-communication without physically touching each other.

Julianne’s approach is theoretically underpinned in Dialogical Gestalt Psychotherapy, Relational Psychoanalytical thinking and is well situated within research fields of neuroscience, attachment, and developmental psychology.

Using her experience of many years of clinical practice and teaching, Julianne offers a safe and respectful space for exercises, experiential process, live supervision, small group work together with theory input and a critical discussion and reflection of different approaches to body process in psychotherapy and relevant interdisciplinary research findings in this field. Participation of this program also includes a handout and a student discount on the Confer Module ‘Embodied Approaches to Psychotherapy’.

Befriending Reality

Facilitated by Mike Turton

Saturday 25 March 2017
10:00 am – 5:00 pm @ Manchester Gestalt Centre

There is often a mismatch between ‘what is actually happening right now’ and ‘what I think is happening’ or ‘what I would like to be happening’ or ‘what I fear is happening’ etc. Accidents happen, opportunities are missed, and relationships flounder due to this discrepancy.

Similarly, there can be a mismatch between ‘the person I really am’ and ‘the person I think I am’ or ‘the person I would like to be’ or ‘the person I am expected to be’ etc. We overlook our limits, ignore our bodies, and try to be something we’re not – to name but a few of the consequences of being out of tune with our true experience.

In this workshop, we will explore this disparity in our own lives, and study the nature of our resistance to letting reality sink in. We will then consider that ‘the way things actually are’ is something solid on which we can build. Finally, we will explore the implications for the practice of therapy, when seen as a unique opportunity for befriending reality.

Cost: £70.00   (Early bird £60.00 payable by 31 January 2017)  Times: 10 – 5

Payment methods: by cheque, payable to Manchester Gestalt Centre, or through the website – using PayPal.  Refunds will only be given if for any reason we are unable to offer you a place or if the workshop is cancelled.

Also send in a paragraph or two about yourself and your interest in this workshop, plus your contact details and email address.

  • A certificate of attendance will be given out at the end of the day.

The Ageing Process: A Gestalt exploration

Sat 13th Sun 14th May 2017 – facilitated by Alessandra Merizzi

This 2-day workshop focuses on the exploration of psychological aspects of ageing in a Gestalt Therapy key. The event is open to Counsellors, Helping Professionals and Therapists, including those in training.

Considering the major psychological aspects of the human development during the life span, this 2-day workshop aims to answer questions about the way the person’s Self and identity are involved in the process of ageing, both a healthy process and a less functional or psychopathological one. The ageing process is influenced by many variables which are determined by both personal aspects e.g. personality traits and social-cultural ones. All of them may be relevant and this may significantly affect the person’s experience of Self in terms of mood, self-esteem and cognition which in its turn will influence their relationships, independency and so on.

The aim will be to explore, in a Gestalt key, how this range of aspects might influence our experience of ageing in terms of how we experience our Self, how we modify our identity alongside our life style and attitude to life. There will be an exploration of both healthy ageing and pathological ageing.

The workshop will include a theoretical presentation, experiential work and discussion.

Cost: £140  (Early bird £120.00 payable by 31st March 17) Times: 10am – 5pm

Payment methods: by cheque, or through the Manchester Gestalt Centre website.

Also send in (or write on the web booking form) a paragraph or two about yourself and your interest in this workshop, plus your contact details and email address. Some reduced fee places may be available.  Please enquire if you think you may be eligible. Refunds will only be given if for any reason we are unable to offer you a place or if the workshop is cancelled

  • A certificate of attendance will be given out at the end of the day.
