UKAGP National Conference
The Gestalt community is invited to celebrate 25 years of the British Gestalt Journal
with Lynne Jacobs – Joe Melnick – Peter Philippson – Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb
30th June to 2nd July 2017 – Wokefield Park Executive Centre, Reading, UK
The Gestalt community are invited to join together to celebrate 25 years of the British Gestalt Journal.
True to the spirit of gestalt, our celebration takes the form of a unique, co-created experiment. Instead of the normal pattern of key note speakers, we’ve invited International and UK contributors Lynne Jacobs, Joe Melnick, Peter Philippson and Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb to publish new papers on different aspects of gestalt practice. These will be published in the BGJ prior to the conference and will be made available to all conference participants.
All participants are then invited to come along with their responses, reactions and questions, using them as a spring-board for dialogue & exploration.
Themes from the initial papers will feed into dialogues, which the contributors themselves will be part of, rather than leading. Through small group discussions, workshops, a ‘World Cafe’ and emergent interest groups, aspects of Gestalt theory and practice, provoked by the published papers, will be experienced and explored.
Conference Highlights Include:
- Special papers from Lynne Jacobs, Joe Melnick, Peter Philippson & Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb.
- Community led workshops (see call for proposals below!)
- A World Cafe to discuss emerging themes
- Space for emergent interest groups and discussion
- Whole group activities
- Process groups
- The UKAGP AGM
- A 3 course community dinner, followed by a party with a live band.
Following the Conference, the original contributors will each write a further paper to be published in the autumn issue of the BGJ. The intention is that these papers, which could be in the form of dialogue or multi-authored pieces, capture new ideas and developments which have been stimulated through the processes of the conference.
We are anticipating a lively and engaging experiment into the unknown…
We hope you can join us for the celebrations!

Call for Workshop Proposals:
Within the conference programme there will be space set aside for community delivered workshops – we know how rich these can be both for participant and faciliatator and so we warmly invite you to consider submitting a proposal and we would particularly welcome people who have not previously offered a workshop at a conference to consider applying, including trainees.
The theme of this conference is the celebration of Gestalt practice. We will be reading, discussing and learning, stimulated by papers on contemporary Gestalt issues written specially for this event.
We would like applicants to bear in mind Malcolm Parlett’s five explorations: responding to the situation; interrelating; embodying; self-recognising and experimenting. We are looking for creative and engaging workshop proposals which will give participants the opportunity to work in a small group for about 90 minutes and add a different dimension to theirs and your experience at the conference.
If you feel energised by the theme of Celebration of Gestalt Practice and Community, if you feel inspired to connect theory and practice with this theme, if you have been waiting for an opening to share your experience ofcelebrating with the wider community, then now is the moment to mobilise!
