As a Gestalt Psychotherapist I believe we are all born with the resources and ability to be in rewarding contact with each other. I also believe that we have the capacity to understand the cause of our own distress and that we have the resources necessary to live, grow and change in ways that are beneficial to us. However, sometimes we get stuck in fixed patterns and beliefs about ourselves and need some support and assistance to resolve our difficulties.
I offer support via a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative and grounded in openness and confirmation of you, and which supports you to see your situation more clearly and find new more creative ways to resolve your difficulties. I help you to explore in an effort to understand yourself more fully so that you may discover more possibilities for yourself.
I view Gestalt Psychotherapy as a holistic and unifying approach, with core outcomes including increased self-awareness, improved self-acceptance and better contact with yourself and others., feeling freer to be yourself and more authentic relationships. I also consider Gestalt Psychotherapy as an important means to health and personal/relational development as well as offering recovery from symptoms of distress such as depression and anxiety.
Alongside my training in Gestalt Psychotherapy, I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Practice (Relational Change) and a Certificate in Supervision(Metanoia Institute). I have a specialist interest in recovery from early development trauma, working with people who have experienced or who are experiencing abuse and with adult survivors of childhood abuse. I am currently working towards accreditation as a supervisor with the UKCP.
I have experience working with individuals both time focused and longer term and with a broad range of issues. I have worked with a number of agencies including Mind and the NHS and I currently work as a psychological therapist and counsellor with the NHS. I have also worked as a teacher of counselling and psychotherapy in the HE/FE Sector.
